Online distance education has gained immense popularity at an exponential acceleration.  It is virtually possible that everyone will have a choice as there are so many programmes or courses that are available through the many schools and universities.

People have found in online learning the answer to education needs including career admission or promotion despite difficulties like limited time or conflict with responsibilities for the family or in a regular job and financial constraints.  Some students even turn to distance education in account of their ineffectiveness, dislike or disapproval of the traditional learning set up.

Aside from the readily seen time and economic advantages, there are other advantages that distance learning online offers which can be experienced by the online learner.

With online education, learning and training materials of the online course are archived.  Students can access and use the materials anytime and even with repetition.  They can study anytime at their convenience especially during times when they are most receptive or motivated and thus increase the rate of learning.  They can study the materials as often as they need which manner is a fundamental learning technique.

With online education’s advantage of freedom and flexibility comes the responsibility and self-discipline.  This is a very valuable lesson and training that accounts as a bonus to students in distance learning online.

Because online students use computers and the internet in schooling, they become more and more skilful of the technology.  This prepares them for jobs that require computer and internet skills.  More so, this makes them attractive to prospective employers, make them more valuable to current employers for promotion and pay increase.

As an added advantage of distance learning online, most in-demand courses like in the fields of information and communication technology are offered as online courses.

For some online students, aside from addressing their personal issues with conventional education, they are also able to free up some time for other activities like a job, other income generating activities, hobbies, family or other important and worthwhile ventures.

Online courses are equally recognised as their conventional counterparts; some are even more valuable especially if earned through accredited online schools.
